Why We Let Kids Tell the Christmas Story

Every year, one of the most meaningful moments at Lake Lynn is watching our kids tell the Christmas story. Not because it’s perfect, but because it’s honest.

Kids don’t pretend Christmas was neat and polished. They tell it with joy, excitement, and sometimes a little chaos. And that’s actually closer to the truth than we realize.

In The Not-So-Silent Night, our kids take on roles like judges, witnesses, angels, shepherds, Mary, Joseph, and even unexpected characters. Through laughter and creativity, they remind us that the Christmas story is both meaningful and joyful.

There’s something powerful about hearing the gospel through the voices of children. It strips away the layers we’ve added over the years and brings us back to the heart of the story. God came near. God kept His promise. God sent His Son.

When kids tell the story, we’re reminded that faith doesn’t have to be complicated. Sometimes it’s as simple as wonder, trust, and joy. Sometimes we need children to help us see what we’ve grown too familiar with.

That’s why we don’t just let kids participate. We let them lead us.
