Why the Gospel Doesn’t Depend on You

One of the most comforting realities in Scripture is that Christianity survived despite the failure of its leaders.

Think about the arrest of Jesus.

The disciples scattered.

Peter denied Christ.

The young man in Mark ran away.

If Christianity depended on human faithfulness, it would have ended before sunrise.

Instead, the Gospel moved forward because it never depended on the disciples.

It depended on Jesus.

Many believers live with constant anxiety because they believe everything rests on their performance.

But salvation rests on Christ’s performance, not ours.

That doesn’t make obedience unimportant.

It makes grace possible.

The Christian life is not sustained by our ability to hold onto God.

It is sustained by God’s ability to hold onto us.
