Trunk or Treat and the Glory of God

This year’s Trunk or Treat was incredible. We estimate around 250 people came through our parking lot, and the atmosphere was filled with laughter, candy, and kindness. We ran out of hot dogs, chips, and drinks within the first hour, but we didn’t run out of joy. Over fifty bags of food were given away to families who needed them.

When the evening ended, I was proud of how well it went. I told Kristie and some friends how great the turnout was and even suggested that it must have been because of our Facebook promotion. But then she reminded me. I forgot the most important truth: it wasn’t what I did. It wasn’t the advertisement or the planning or the setup. It was the Lord.

“To God be the glory, great things He has done.”

God is the reason the community showed up. God is the reason our church family worked together so beautifully. God is the reason people felt loved when they walked through the gates. Gratitude begins when we stop patting ourselves on the back and start pointing our praise upward.

It is so easy to slip into self-congratulation. We all like to feel appreciated and noticed, and that is okay. But the difference between pride and gratitude is who gets the glory. Pride says, “Look what I did.” Gratitude says, “Look what God did.”

If you helped with Trunk or Treat, thank you. You were part of something bigger than an event. You were part of a moment where our community saw a glimpse of God’s love in action. Let’s keep that spirit alive in every event, every ministry, and every ordinary day.

To God be the glory. Great things He has done.
