Don’t Be the Goat in the T-Rex Pen

When I was preaching about how the devil works, I told the story from Jurassic Park. Remember the goat chained up in front of the T-Rex paddock? That poor animal never stood a chance. It was literally chained in place, waiting to be eaten.

That’s how the enemy wants to set you up—he wants you to step right into his territory and make yourself an easy target.

Peter warns us that “your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.” But if you’re walking with Jesus, you don’t have to fear the lion—you just have to stop wandering into his pen.

The devil’s biggest weapon isn’t possession. It’s persuasion.
He doesn’t usually come at you with red eyes and smoke and fire. He whispers. He distracts. He convinces. He’s been doing that since the Garden of Eden, when he got Eve to question God’s Word with one simple phrase: “Did God really say…?”

He’s still doing it today. “Did God really say you’re forgiven?” “Did God really say He’ll take care of you?” “Did God really say He loves you?”

The enemy can’t overpower you, but he’ll do everything he can to undermine your confidence in God’s truth.

So, fill your heart and mind with Scripture. Stay alert. Stay anchored. Because when truth collides with lies, truth always wins.
