When the House of God Becomes a House of Noise

Jesus entered the temple and said, “My house shall be called a house of prayer.” Those words were not only a rebuke to what the temple had become. They were a reminder of what it was always meant to be.

The temple was supposed to be a place where people sought God. Instead, it had become crowded with noise, business, and distraction.

That is not just a first century problem. It is a modern one too.

Our lives can become so packed with activity that prayer gets crowded out. Even churches can become so busy doing things for God that they forget to spend time with God. We can have services, meetings, music, and events, yet still lack the presence and power that only come from real dependence on the Lord.

A busy church is not always a powerful church.

Prayer is what keeps us from confusing motion with spiritual life. It reminds us that what matters most is not how much we can do, but whether we are walking closely with God as we do it.

The hard question is not whether we are active. The hard question is whether we are truly seeking Him.
